It wasn't very noticeable in overall performance. I can't remember why I stopped, there was a specific reason that I didn't want RAID, at least for a short time. I will probably go back to RAID soon.

well i get confused with anything more than a doxen windows open... not very time effective.

benchmarks... dunno how u guys are doin them bust for me just approximate a single 60gxp.

plus i dont wanna have to worry about installing them and setting them up.
taken me ages to get my system just right

Be sure to run the test at default settings.

Wow. Are my HD Tach speeds good? Seems to be a halfway decent pace maker for now.

I've still not done a defrag, but I seem to remember doing one a while back and it didn't make much difference to my scores.

Not too bad seeing how I have pulled one drive out of my stripe for the moment.

Using the Atto util you directed me to my results were very good. Small transfers (8k or less) were not all that great, but then again it does not matter for smaller files! For transfered 16k to 1 meg here is what I got:

Reading-
High/low 92628/91589

Writing-
High/low 82017/81180

Yeah, I gotta find snagit for a screenshot, ill get to that later. Waiting for steak to get done then I gotta build a machine. I have 2x IBM 36.4 gig 10000 RPM SCSI drives running on an IBM serveraid 4H (128 meg cache, 266mhz copper ppc processor onboard). Testing was done with all defaults =) Strip size if I recall correctly is 8k, writethrough disabled (I gotta enable that, I have a UPS!!)

LOL that explains it I thoght you were going to tell me you were getting those scores with a couple of IBM IDE drives! Ive got three seagate cheetahs 9.1 gig 10k drives striped in Raid O on a qlogic 2100 fibre HBA also with a 266 mips processor but no cache. I had a 4 drives in the set but I am curently changing things around getting ready for a pair of Seagate 36xl's 36.7 gig drives (faster than these I have now). These drives aren't to shabby, expecially for the 12 bucks a piece I paid for them. I was getting over 100,000 mbs with 4 drives, my stripe size is set to default, using dynamic disk setup in win2k. These things are just screaming for a 64 bit 66 mhz bus.....going to have to get that mpx board I guess

By the way just hit "alt" and "print screen" simultaneously. Open MS paint then hit "shift" and "insert". That will do a screen capture for you.

Yeah, I am thinking about adding a third or forth, but I need a 64 bit slot too!! I need to either get a really big tower case or an external drive tower. One with a hot swap backplain would be great, but they are not cheap =)

Just got the Lian-li PC-76.

It is huge, great for all my HDDs and such.

Building a new system right now - still need to buy mobo.

2 x 1700+ XPs.
5 x Ultra160 Cheetah 10k
4 x WD 100GB 8Mb cache 7200RPM
Adaptec 2110S Raid160
Promise FasttrakTX2

+ assorted goodies.

Am modifying the case to accept a 2nd PSU so will have Enermax 651 and 300 running mixed peripherals.

It is a big, roomy server case, but in little more footpring that a full size tower.

the best raid0 performance would be 4 hdds on 4 seperate channels. 3 will give you a substantial boost over 2.
