Question RAID10 migration

I am dealing with a motherboard failure with an internal 4x1Tb RAID 10 array. The drives are attached as SATA HDD’s. I can detect that the drives are healthy, so they don’t appear messed up.

When this happened 10 years ago, I had to resort to sending the drives out for recovery ($$$).

I’m likely going to build a new system with NVME memory for the core system.

So, do I simply mount the array onto the new motherboard , and figure how to migrate the data?

Unless this RAID array has its own PCIe card to control it...you can't simply plug these into a whole different motherboard and expect it to work.

May we assume you do not have a good full backup of this array?
Correct, I was relying on the array and not thinking I was going to be hamstrung by a motherboard failure. There is a NAS on the network, and key data is cloud stored.

So, there are options short of sending the array out for data recovery.

Repeat after me...

RAID is not a replacement for a backup
RAID is not a replacement for a backup
RAID is not a replacement for a backup
RAID is not a replacement for a backup

So, simply connecting these 4 drives to a different motherboard will not 'just work'.

Maybe this software will allow you to recover. Maybe.
