i was wondering if anyone here new of any apps similer to rian or waterfall that worked well under win2k. any suggestions would be apprecisted.

BTW, for those of you with AMD processors w/o any major form of overheat protection. if you are using motherboard moniter you might want to try downloading a utility called shutdown from http://www.rjlsoftware.com and putting that in the launcher for MBM.

it will shut my system off in less than 3 seconds, i imagine it would work about as quickly on other systems. so if for some reason you have an unexpected overheating problem and your not there to watch it....

is this reality... i thought it would more realistic.

yes, they are software coolers.

i know that they won't run on athlons, they won't run under win2k either. i was wondering if anyone had any idea if there are similar utilitys availible for AMD Duron/T-Birds running win2k.

I heard about CPUIDLE and CPUCOOL, but I haven't tried them (don't need to). You can download them at http://www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com/utilities.htm#CPUCooL

 Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

win2k sends HLT commands to the cpu by itself, there is no need for those software coolers in win2k.

thats what i thought but wasn't sure. it not a big deal anyways, i have MBM configured to launch that shutdown program from my fisrt post. if my CPU reaches 55C or my MB reaches 35C, it will shut my machine completly off within 3 seconds.

is this reality... i thought it would more realistic.

is the program called "shutdownnow"? (I cant look as im @ work), I have that and the minumum shutdown time is 10 secs, is it a different program ?(SHDN they call it, can be launched automatically from the tick box in MBM5)

Next time you wave - use all your fingers

no its called "Shutdown v1.02." the time it takes for it to work varies from machine to machine, ie on my work machine which is a P-III 733/128MB it takes about 8 seconds under win98, with my home machine, duron 850@1064/256MB it takes about three seconds nder win2k. it can be configured to work faster is you have a slower computer, all the instructions are at thier website.

BTW, if anyone is interested you can download it here
