RAM 1600Mhz vs 1866Mhz

I planning to buy some Corsair RAM soon but I heard that on a Intel based computer, the differences between the two are very small and not worth the price difference. Is this true? And will this be compatible with Asus P9X79 Pro motherboard ( since I saw the manual which had 'compatible' ram ).

On intel, there's really no reason to go with 1866 RAM, that's correct. And yes, 'compatible' ram is just an example of what could work - it's not exclusive by any means.
