Dear all,
I'm updating my 2008 pc, and apart from the SSD I have a doubt on the RAM.
My Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z68P-DS3 ATX LGA1155, with an Intel i5-2500K.
I've right now a 8GB kit (4x2GB) Corsair CMX8GX3M4A1333C9 (1333MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V).
A friend gifted me two Kingstone 8gb KHX1600C10D3B1/8G (1600MHz, 10-10-10, 1.5V), according to the tech specs this can work at 1333 in 9-9-9 config:
The motherboard supports dual channel RAM configurations, specifically:
- 2&4 as Channel A
- 1&3 as Channel B
It's also support both 1333 and 1600MHz configuration.
According to the tech manual for the motherboard:
My question is about which are the pro and the cons about the following configurations:
Option 1a:
- S1 (B): Kingstone 8GB - 1600MHz
- S2 (A): Kingstone 8GB - 1600MHz
- S3 (B):
- S4 (A):
Dual channel enabled
Option 1b:
- S1 (B): Kingstone 8GB - 1600MHz
- S2 (A):
- S3 (B): Kingstone 8GB - 1600MHz
- S4 (A):
Dual channel disabled
Option 2:
- S1 (B): Kingstone 8GB - 1600MHz
- S2 (A): Corsair 2GB - 1333MHz
- S3 (B): Kingstone 8GB - 1600MHz
- S4 (A): Corsair 2GB - 1333MHz
Dual channel enabled

This module has been tested to run at DDR3-1600 at a low latency timing of 10-10-10 at 1.5V.The SPD is programmed to JEDEC standard latency DDR3-1333 timing of 9-9-9 at 1.5V.
The motherboard supports dual channel RAM configurations, specifically:
- 2&4 as Channel A
- 1&3 as Channel B
It's also support both 1333 and 1600MHz configuration.
According to the tech manual for the motherboard:
Due to CPU limitations, read the following guidelines before installing the memory in Dual Channel mode.
1. Dual Channel mode cannot be enabled if only one DDR3 memory module is installed.
2. When enabling Dual Channel mode with two or four memory modules, it is recommended that
memory of the same capacity, brand, speed, and chips be used and installed in the same colored
DDR3 sockets. For optimum performance, when enabling Dual Channel mode with two memory
modules, we recommend that you install them in the DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 sockets.
