I was looking into upgrading the ram in my pc and was wondering what would be the best bang for the buck
Currently I'm running 2*4gb 1600mhz RAM 9-9-9-24 1.35v or 1.5v Crucial Low Profile. Due to bad reviews the ram is no longer available on newegg, many of the bad reviews being cause by newegg selling it as part of a combo with a motherboard that the ram wasn't compatible with. My ram runs perfectly fine
I was looking into going to 16gb of ram and if possible still use my current 4gb sticks.
I was wondering if it would be possible to use 1 2x4gb 1866 ram in the other slots or would mixing frequencies cause issues?
If I see a 2x4gb kit of 1600mhz ram should I only buy it if the timing, latency and voltage are the same as my current setup if I want to run both simultaneously?
I'm using a dedicated GPU so I've mainly seen that ram speeds don't matter enough to spend the extra money beyond 1600mhz.
The computer would mainly be used for gaming and schoolwork which would involve MATLAB and Solidworks, along with specialized orbital simulations in the upcoming future.
