Question RAM, BIOS Issues

Current Setup

Ryzen 5 1600 - Getting 3600 Tomorrow

AX370 Gaming K5 F40 Bios Ver.

Patriot Viper Blackout 3000 Mhz 4x8GB

GTX 1060 3GB



Problems:

1. I can't edit my RAM Speed in BIOS, it just doesn't let me edit it at all, defaults it to 2133 Mhz, I have to use Gigabyte EasyOC to overclock my ram.

2. I managed to edit to 2666 Mhz maximum, higher doesn't let me boot even with XMP. I suspect its because of the CPU IMC limitation to 2666 but I'v seen people overclock ryzen 1st gen higher than 2666

3. I can probably manage to get 3200 on Ryzen 5 3600 cause the IMC officially supports those speeds.

4. Motherboard max Memory OC is 3200, so there's no chance it can go over 3200, I have to change the board?



Any Information is greatly appreciated.

What BIOS revision are you on? I have that exact motherboard and I'm overclocking CPU and RAM without difficulty.

24/7 overclock for me is

r5 1600: 3850MHz
RAM: 3333MT/s 14-17-18-28 CR1
F10 BIOS

You could flash an older BIOS, but it's a moot point if you plan on changing CPUs anyway.

I got it, Managed to overclock ram to 3200 Mhz stable, 200 over rated speed, but my other question.
My MB "supports" max OC 3200, can I go over that limit or do I have to change the board?

You are only limited by memory controller, RAM ICs, signal trace, and how much gumption you have. I'm at 3333CL14 with same board and CPU.

My memory is Double stacked, not the best for overclocking but I pushed it 200 Mhz beyond its rated speed without issues, I'll try to tweak it and increase it see how far I can get with XMP timings, what'd you think?

X.M.P. is a timing profile configured for Intel memory controllers and generally poses a problem for Ryzen. It's always best to spend the time to manually tune if you want the most performance.

In Ryzen Dram Calculator there is no option for this.
Probably some new Manufacturer, have no clue how good their modules are, no clue about die type either.

Nanya is a much smaller manufacturer than the big 3. Patriot probably bought them cheap.

You might not get very far with those. I suspect they are old ICs from early DDR4.

Certainly worth trying though.

3600Mhz CL16 using 4 modules with a 1 gen Ryzen is very rare. So that's good but be sure that its stable. I couldn't get past 3533 stable with two modules using Patriot Viper 3400.

More stable than me mentally, Patriot Viper Blackout edition or Patriot Viper 4 3400?

Viper 4 but I am using a cheap motherboard ASRock AB350 Pro 4.

I think it could be IMC from your CPU, I had 1600 couldn't push above 2666
