[SOLVED] RAM Compatability

I was looking into buying some new RAM, and when looking at my mother boards compatibility it says it supports up to 2666mhz, but on pcpartpicker it doesn't say there are any problems with RAM compatibility no matter what the speed. Does anyone know how high I am able to go?

Motherboard: MSI B360 GAMING PLUS
Current RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2666Mhz 16gb

2666mhz is the fastest memory that is compatible with that motherboard, regardless of what CPU is installed, however, if you only have an i3 or Pentium, anything other than an i5, i7 or i9, then only 2400mhz is supported.

2666mhz is ONLY supported when using a Core i5, i7 or i9 based on the memory QVL for that board.

You can install RAM of just about any speed over 2666MHz, but it will clock down to only run at 2666MHz.

Yes, exactly. You can install any speed you like, within reason, but it will only run at a maximum of 2666mhz unless you have an i3 or Pentium, in which case it will only run at a maximum of 2400mhz.

Your Mb supports 2666/ 2400/ 2133 MHz.

With OC RAM there is no guarantee you will reach the rated frequency.
It is the IMC on the chip that determines what frequency can be achieved.

When buying RAM it's best to select a single kit at a size you need and a frequency your MB and CPU supports and chosen from the MB QVL. That way you know they have been tested and known to work.
