Hello!
I'm thinking of upgrading my system and i'm a little bit confused. I want to put 2 sticks of 4 gb ddr3 1333 Mhz ram on my Gigabyte GA-G41M-Combo. I've been reading some posts on this forum about this motherboard and its ram compatibility, and people've been having issues with this particular configuration. And I later stumbled upon a piece of information that the G41 chipset only supports 128 and 256 mb module ram sticks (I don't know if this is true; if it is, it will make finding compatible ram a whole lot harder).

So my questions are:
Can I put 2 512x8 mb ram sticks (that makes for 8 gb) in my motherboard with no compatibility issues?
Or do I need a compatible cpu that has FSB speed higher or identical to the speed of ram (1333 mhz) to make such ram compatible?

I'm currently looking at these 2 kits of 2x4 gb ram:

and

If you think there's a better option for my motherboard on this website, please suggest it beacuse none of this is final as of yet.

My specs (in case you're interested):
CPU: Intel Pentium E5700; FSB speed: 800 Mhz (thinking of upgrading to a Q9650; FSB speed: 1333 Mhz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G41M-Combo rev. 1.3 (not thinking of upgrading beacuse it's just fine)
RAM: according to aida64, I have a pair of Kingston 2 gb 400 Mhz ddr2 sticks; it can't read the particular model
graphics card: Gigabyte GeForce GT 430 2 gb (thinking of upgrading to a 260x of 270x depending on the budget)
PSU: generic 420 W psu

Extra question: What's the performance hit on the GPUs or similar ones that I mentioned when running them at PCI-E 1.1 16x?

I know that my rig isn't the best, but with these upgrades, it'll definetly be better. I'm not thinking about buying a new computer.

I didn't notice those were 1600. Since max support is 8 GB, then a 2x4 GB should be fine.

DDR3:

2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory (Note 1)
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR3 1333(O.C.)/1066/800 MHz memory modules

If you are worried, then just get a 4x2 kit( four 2GB RAM)

This is most likely the better option.

As for your Question about the PCIE 1.1, I used a Sapphire R7 260x on my old rig that had 1.1 and I still ran games just fine :). If you run it into X16 that helps utilize alot of it's bandwith.

Thanks for your suggestion, but this particular kit isn't a very good choice for my motherboard. Despite the 4 DIMM slots, 2 are ment for ddr2 and 2 for ddr3 ram (I cannot mix them). And the 1600 Mhz frequency is a plus, but i'd like to play it safe (budget reasons) and go for the maximum my mobo supports (1333 Mhz). You could argue that it will downclock to a suported frequency, but let's be honest, I'd be wasting money.
