Hello,
I'm building a PC for someone and using an i9-10900 CPU, the board I picked is an H570. The processor says it supports 2933mhz memory, but 2933 seems to be more expensive and less options than 3200mhz. So question is, should I stick 3200mhz DIMM's in there and try to xmp them to 3200? Would it be better to "underclock" the 3200mhz DIMM's to 2933? Or should I just try to find some decent 2933 DIMMS? I don't even know if the H570 is going to let me run the memory at 3200mhz... but I don't want to waste money on a Z490 or a Z590 with a non-K (overclockable) cpu... THOUGHTS?
thanks :)

You can drop in DDR4-3200MHz, he board will natively run the rams at 2933MHz. Which H570 board did you pick? If you go for a Z series chipset, yes you can overclock the IMC to get to that advertised ram frequency. Just factor in a good aftermarket cooler if you go for the Z series platform.

I was looking at the ASUS TUF Gaming H570, seemed like one of the best deals based on availability and price, but in the last few minutes I did some more digging and searching and think I'm now leaning towards the ASUS Z490-P, its a little cheaper and will let me run the RAM at 3200. PC part picker shows several builds with that CPU and RAM frequency so I guess its not an issue. Plus I think the 400 series seems more designed for 10th gen and 500 series is more for 11th gen...

2933 is the max speed at which the motherboard will use upon entering the bios.
Any ram will boot at lower default speeds to let you into the bios.
Once in the bios, you can set the speed to what the ram will support.
Technically this is overclocking ram.
Intel does not much depend on ram speed for performance.
3200 speed is fine. Today, you may find 3600 speed to be priced similarly.
Do not get too excited about that.
Faster ram is accompanied by higher latency which negates much of the speed benefit.

On the motherboard, there is value in a Z590 based motherboard.
They are a more refined version of the predecessor Z490 boards.

They will have more robust voltage regulation which will allow a processor to turbo up higher.
The i9-10900K can be very demanding on power.

A clue is if the motherboard has one or two 8 pin eps power connectors and some good cooling on the vrm section.
It seems that overclocking, even a K processor is not the way to go for most users.
The automatic turbo approach does the job.

Yeah I think I'm going to go with the H570 TUF, it looks like its got more heatsinks on it and features of a "more expensive" board, even though they are the same price.
