RAM Compatibility help

Actually in DDR3 there all kinds of things that affect compatibility - the old adage of DDR3 is DDR3 disapeared a few years back, there is PnP DDR3 that won't work on older cipsets and sockets like 775, 1156..... same with the memory chips used there are low denity 1Gb and 2Gb memory ICs for older sockets and new lines of DRAM are made with high density 4Gb ICs...... there are 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16GB sticks, some mobos can't handle 8 or 16GB sticks.......

I wish DDR3 was as 'easy' as so many seem to think it is. I wrote an article on DDR3, Part 1 is here:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ddr-dram-faq,4154.html

my working title was DDR3 FAQs and Fiction but they have split it into two sections and gave each their own title, Part 2 should be published soon, it primarily deals with myths and eroneous thoughts (Fiction)
