Hi,

I already have 2x8gb (3000MHz) of ram from Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 version 4.32 and I wanted to buy a B450-DS3H GIGABYTE Motherboard since it is on sale. But on the compatible memory list, only version 4.23 is there (same module). Does that mean the version that I have will not work with this motherboard, and I have to look for another one?

Welcome to the forums 😀

No, look at the version numbers, the approved ram is older because that is the RAM that the mobo maker had on hand before they released the board. the QVL is NOT a list of the only working RAM. what the QVL IS is simply a list of modules the maker had to test with. they test with many models to ensure broad compatibility upon release. imagine if only this RAM worked with that board, I shudder to think. When the board is new the QVL is very important, its the makers saying that these modules WILL WORK, they tested them. Now, two years later the BIOS updates have fixed most RAM issues, several units on the QVL have been replaced or updated, many models released after the boards release will never be on the list...

the QVL its a guidepost, not a rulebook.

It means your RAM has not been tested with that motherboard.

Thank you so much! This was very helpful. But in this case, does it mean that we can only assume models released after the boards release will be compatible based on their previous version tested?
