Ram Compatibility with Mainboard

Hello there,
I have a quite frustrating problem because im looking for a lga1155 Mainboard (currently looking at MSI H61M-P31/W8) because mine (MSI MS 7728 2.0) doesnt accept the new gtx 1060 due to bios compatibility issues. Last Bios Update for that mainboard dropped like 2012 and isnt even working properly. My PSU has 450W is enough for the 1060 so its not about that. Anyways so im looking for a new mainboard and whenever I check the Memory Support List I see something like that:

Compatible with:
Elixir 4GB 1333 Ram M2F4G64CB8HD5N-CG

So far so good. I also have 4GB Elixir 1333 Ram.
BUT I have DDR3 1333 4GB Elixir M2F4G64CB8H65N-CG
So there is a diffrence in the model number.

My question now is if that matters or if I can just run my RAM on that board with no worries. As an extra question I'd like to know if that board is okay. Im running a i5-3450 x4 3.1 GHz on it.

LGA 1155 boards should run your 1333 RAM just fine, including the MSI board you're looking at, whether you've got a Sandy Bridge or an Ivy Bridge CPU (yours is Ivy). I wouldn't sweat it. Note that your i5-3450 does support 1600MHz RAM too if you want to replace. Not sure how tangible the real world result from 1333 to 1600 would be though.
 
1| I'm skeptical about the new board being compatible with your GTX1060 GPU. If anything they will be identical in terms of BIOS environment since the new board you're looking at has a BIOS revision released on 2013 at the latest. Are you changing the board due to the GTX1060 alone?

2| Theoretically any DDR3 kit or stick of ram will go into any DDR3 ram slot on a compatible motherboard. The only reason you have QVL's is that the rams were tested by the manufacturer themselves at the factory to ensure that the board will work out of the box with said ram.

3| Since we're dealing with an H61 platform, the highest frequency from your ram your motherboard will recognize will be 1333MHz. Advertised speeds higher than 1333MHz will be downclocked to DDR3-1333MHz.

I'm assuming you didn't read the specs of the MSI H61M board he's looking at. It supports DDR3 up to 1600. On 1155, Ivy bridge CPUs support 1600, Sandy's 1333. He's got an Ivy Bridge CPU. His 1333 will work but he has the option to buy 1600 on the new board if he wanted to.

I'm assuming the issue with the current board's GPU compatibility is that its listed as having a "PCIe" slot. Sounds like it may be 1.0 which could be a problem for modern GPUs. If it were at least 2.0 I'd think it would be fine with a current GPU; it would just have limited bandwidth (500MB/s per PCIe lane vs 3.0's 900MB/s per PCIe lane. Granted it would still be higher than all the folks running GPUs in PCIe 3.0 x16 slots that are knocked down to x8 because of populating their 2nd PCIe slot, so I wouldn't even sweat that if it applied here.

The MSI board he's looking at has a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot. There's no reason a 10 series GTX card shouldn't work just fine. That said, I've been wrong before....and haven't tried a 10 series on 1155 (damn, just broke my 1155 system down too!).
 
The thing is the MSI MS 7728 2.0 has a PCIE 2.0 x16 Slot. I installed the GPU when it arrived (first uninstalled my old 550ti drivers to make things sure.) plugged in the 6 pin power supply and turned my pc on (with case opend to make sure it gets power (it obviously did since the fans were working)). As usal the Medion BIOS Splash Screen appeared. It usually should stay there for like max 3secs but it just froze there. I couldnt even open BIOS. It also had a short beep going on every like 30 seconds till It went to power save mode and the screen went black. If there is any other problem than the motherboard I would be super thankful because thats literally the only reason I would change my motherboard.
 
I want to know if the MSI MS 7728 2.0 Mainboard actually is the problem for the compatibility issue for my gtx 1060 OC. It gets stuck in BIOS Splash Screen with that Medion Logo when I install the GPU and I want to know if I can fix this somehow.
 
The only one that can answer that 100% is the motherboard manufacturer (or if you get lucky, someone who's had the same issue on the same board). You can reach out to them via their contact info on their website.

I would guess its the motherboard, and the new one you're looking at replacing it with should be fine. Again though, if you want to be certain, contact the manufacturer.
