Hello,

I'm putting together a build using the MEG X670E Godlike and the Ryzen 9 7950X. I' currently stuck on the RAM purchase. Reason being the AMD site only lists 2 X 8 Gb kits and 2 X 16 Gb kits as being compatible with the Ryzen. Here is the link https://www.amd.com/en/products/ryzen-compatible-memory-ryzen-7000-series-processor Since the MOBO allows for 128 Gb RAM and only has 4 slots I would like to use 1 X 32 Gb kits so that if I decide to upgrade I can take advantage of the full capability. Does anybody know why AMD does not list 1 X 32 Gb kits or at the least 2 X 32Gb kits?

Thanks!

These folks seem to have 32GB sticks...
because it is a brand new platform and they have not had time to test everything on the market. 2 x 8 and 2 x 16 would be the most popular options and thus they checked on those configurations first.

as always, wait for a while for others to test things out and know what works and does not work. or buy day 1 and be the guinea pig the rest of us will learn from.

all you can do is buy and hope it works unless you can find someone who has already tested something. will take a while to test every possible combo and it's only been a week.

as a side note, buying matched sets is the way to go. read the mobo manual and i'll bet it won't run 4 sticks at advertised speed, especially full 32 gb sticks. keep all that in mind when deciding and buying. most likely starting with 2 x 32 and then trying to add another set later will be very unlikely to work. the timings and such are so tight with the new fast ram that it is very hard to get mismatched sets to work and ddr5 is even faster and tighter timings.

Thanks for eye opener. I just figured that to actually put the mobo, cpu and whatever else they would have tested it already. I mean how can you put a mobo for sale if you haven't tested multiple configs yet. Or I guess that's the purpose of BIOS updates?

even after being out for years every ram stick is not tested. they do add some but they will never be able to test the hundreds of options available. it's just unrealistic to expect that.

bios updates will add features or fix bugs or help optimize the system and so on. in the case of ryzen, bios updates allowed new cpu's that did not even exist when the mobo was made. pretty impressive to me they could do that with am4 boards.

if you stick to popular brands and models, you have the best chance of it being tested. but off brand or niche models usually get ignored. mainly due to companies not sending them out for reviews and manufacturers not wanting to buy it to test it out. think how expensive it would be to buy every ram set out there to test!!.
