[SOLVED] Ram compatibility

Im thinking of buying an extra ram stick, but the ram that i have (Adata XPG Z1) isnt available anywhere. I found that G.skill aegis has the same voltage and a similar timing. Will the ram work properly in dual channel or will i run into problems? Thanks.

What's the motherboard model?
How much RAM do you have?
Even if you were able to get the same model, is not recommended to mix different RAM modules.
Modules with identical specifications from a kit should be used when running in multi-channel mode.
It is hard to predict the outcome when you mix and match modules that were not tested to work together. A motherboard might even stop working all together.
The RAM that goes into a kit (package) has been tested to work together. There are times that different modules, even if they look similar, they could have different IC chips brands.
Manufacturers don’t guarantee mixing or adding one module to another, even when they are the "exact same" model.

If you want to avoid headaches, I suggest you buy a 16GB kit.

You could get any DDR4 RAM, but there is a better chance everything will work if you take your CPU specs (up to 2600MHz DDR4) and motherboard tested RAM in consideration.
A RAM that has not been tested to work with your motherboard could required manual tuning in the BIOS.

If you buy a single RAM module now, there is not guarantee you could get another module later on that could work with it.
You will end up in the same dilema that you are at the moment with the Adata XPG Z1,

yeah but i feel like hyper x is gonna be a lot easier to find and the likelihood of the same model of ram working would be quite high

i decided to get the hyperx fury 1x16, i have one more question, is there any point trying out the 8gb xpg ram i have with the 16gb and run both in single channel, or should i just sell it now?

Entirely up to you. No harm in trying the two RAM modules together. Worst that could happen is that your system doesn't boot.
