Ram compatible with 4th gen intel processors

Hi! I just purchased the MSI z97A gaming 7. Now I'm looking for RAM compatible with my 4th gen intel core i7. I currently have the Corsair Vengeance PRO (8gb) and for some reason it only works in dimm slot 3 and 4. The Ram has to be: DDR3, 240 pin, 1600 or 1866 Mhz. I'm looking for both single stick and dual channel (just to have both options).

Should work fine in slots 1 or 2 which is generally the preferred as it's the lead channel. What CPU cooler are you using, if too tight in a corner or side it can throw the CPU out of level so you don't have full contact with the socket Pins and it can effectively 'lose' a channel, can try loosening the cooler and snug it back down screw tight (don't overly tighten ). Otherwise, might check the socket for bent/broken pins or may have a bum mobo.
