Ram Configuration on MSI 870-G45

Hey Everyone. I have a fairly straight forward question about RAM configuration. I have a custom PC that uses an MSI 870 G45. It has four RAM slots, 2 pairs of different colors. I am currently using 2x2GB sticks (4GB total). I decided to add a few upgrades, and want to add 8GB more (12 total). Is this possible? If I have a 4GB (what I have now), and I add 2x4GB modules (second pair) will the pc recognize both? The user manual is fairly unclear about 2 separate pairs. Both pairs would be the same type of RAM (frequency/etc), just different sizes. Thoughts? I would like to utilize the dual-channel function, but not sure if this will work.

Thanks all.

Solution
In theory it is possible to have two dual channel kits installed and have the system run in dual channel mode. But, this is primarily dependent on memory characteristics (apart from speed, capacity, voltage, and principal timings) as to whether the memory will run nicely or not.

Could try using both kits in dual channel configuration (4 GB in slot 1, 2 GB in slot 2, 4 GB in slot 3, and 2 GB in slot 4; alternatively 2 GB in slot 1, 4 GB in slot 2, 2 GB in slot 3, and 4 GB in slot 4), and see what happens.
