I just bought 2x16gb ddr4 3200mhz corsair vengeance lpx. It started initially at 2133 so I tried turning on XMP so it would be set to 3200, this ended up crashing, I tried 3000mhz and it crashed also, finally I tried 2666mhz and it is working. Could this be faulty memory? It is installed in A1 and B1 (1st and 3rd slot) as it says on my motherboards manual (msi z390-a pro)

Wouldn't be 1st/3rd unless you meant from edge of board? It's always 2nd and 4th from cpu. Cpu -> slot | 2nd | slot | 4th.

With these slots populated, check XMP is setting dram voltage to 1.35v.
