if your planning on a 8GB/4GB system get some Corsair Vengeance (either a 2x4GB pack or 2x2GB pack depending if you want 8GB/4GB. Or some HyperX Beast both these a good quality and reliable.

If looking for 8GB get a single package of 2x4GB, mixing individual sticks can be problematic, would also look for a 1600/9 1.5 set vs these 1600/10 sticks....Might look at the GSkill Snipers, not sure what you want them for, but the Snipers are a good fit on all platforms

Nothing wrong with Patriot Viper3 Ram, but like any other Ram brand, they have better sticks and worse sticks. For the best performance you want CAS 9 or below. If you have Intel 3xxx series cpu or below you can use upto 1.65v Ram, Intel 4xxx series recommends 1.5v or below. For best guarantee of compatibility, always buy your Ram as a single unit, if 8Gb, then buy 2x4Gb sticks in same package, not 2 packages of 1x4Gb. Intel cpu's use a maximum of 1600MHz internal clock, so matching that means best performance for the amount of heat created. AMD uses 1866MHz better.

Some of the more popular recommended.

I was thinking the 2x4gb Kingston Blu sticks. Are they good and would they work w/ the ASRock Z87 Extreme3 MoBo, 4670k?

Kingston HyperX Blu are 1.65v Ram, Recommended voltage for a 4670k is 1.5v. Also, you want to look for 2x4GB, CAS 9, DDR3 1600 (PC3 14900 or PC3 15000) 240-pin SDRAM (Desktop RAM).

If you can't see those details in the specs when looking at the ram, don't buy it, you could get anything.
