Hi, I would like to know what the ultimate differences are between 2GB RAM DDR2 533 to 677 to 800.

I noticed that 1GB RAM DDR2 800 is the same price than the 2GB RAM DDR2 577. Is they're effectiveness really taken down? Is there any way we could calculate the effectiveness of lets say 4GB RAM DDR2 533 to 2GB RAM DDR2 800? Razz Thanks

what do you mean by "effectiveness"?

Good question. I am not sure what he means... probably trying to find a price to performance ratio. For example, if you have 4GB of cheap RAM does that perform the same as 2GB of expensive RAM because they are the same cost.... in which case I have to say no.

It depends on you front side bus. If you have a non-overclocked cpu like C2Duo it will have a fornt side bus of 1066mhz. So, in that case, you only need DDR2 533 (2x533=1066). When the front side bus of cpus become 1333 you'll want DDR2 667. and so forth. The reason why people buy DDR2 800 right now is for future proff reasons or to overclock the cpu, raising its FSB and getting RAM that acompanies that increase.

lol, i know that, im sure SuperFly03 knows this as well, but that is not the question here...
we were talking about "effectiveness", or to be exact what snipingkid meant by it

Assman, I know you know that. But I think the original poster doesn't know that hence his question about how it all relates. At least, thats what I understood from the original post...

You need 533 because 1066/4 (quad pumped FSB) = 266 and 533/2 (DDR = double data rate) = 266 so you have matched FSB:MEM ratio. You are right that when FSB 1333 comes along 667 will be mainstream and probably the minimum you want, but again it's because 1333/4 = 333 and 667/2 = 333. So while you have the end result right (1066 FSB = DDR2 533 memory) your method of getting there is skewed.

Just helping. 😀

SuperFly, I know that. But it was an easier way to explain this stuff quiclly to the original poster. But thanks anyway.

Alright thanks man. Now is there a limit on pc's and what they handle.. im not familiar with that part... does this have to with the MOBO i choose? Thanks

Alright, the motherboard i will most likely get is :

ASUS P5N-E SLI nForce 650i(Quad Core)

or

ASUS P5B P965, (Quad Core)

theyre both the same price...

BTW... what should i get ? lol

or I should i add 10 $ for the ASUS P5B-E P965(Quad Core)

Or another 66 for ASUS P5B Deluxe P965, (Quad Core)?

I dont have much cash left... so...

I think that unless you're overclocking or looking for particular features (SLI, Crossfire, whatever), then either one of those is ok. Just go for the cheapest.

Others may disagree, though.

Well right now im thinking that I would like to overclock my whole computer, to make it worth a lot more for what I paid for.(making it look like its a powerful gaming pc). I was told that buying a Core 2 Duo E6300 i could overclock it to be even better than the E6500 or E6600, and that i would be saving more than 360 dollars!!

I'm just wondering what I should get exactly to make it an overclocked beast. I'm going to buy from Magic-Micro.com. For those that know something about the best hardware to overclock to make money just go here and build one for me... Takes about 5-7 minutes...

I really really dont want to spend more than 1400, AND THAT IS WAY TOO MUCH, try to keep it below 1200, by the way I would the ATI RADEON 1900XT, if possible, except if you can find one that is more worth the investment... (can u overclock a VGA card :?: )just wondering....

Just build one and click the send to a friend button. My email is snipingkid53166@hotmail.com
