Memory
======
I have 2 sticks of PC2100 256MB memory. I tried adding a 512MB PC2700 stick
with no luck. Won't do anything when everything is installed. If I boot
with the PC2700 stick only XP starts to load, then hangs. Shouldn't this
board handle PC2700? If so, can I mix PC2100 and PC2700?

Chip Fan
======
The small fan that sits between the CPU and the first PCI slot is turning
slowly and making noise. Has anyone changed out this fan? Is it an easy
one to find?

Thanks.

Jim H.

It can be replaced. I've done it a few times before.

To reply, replace digi.mon with phreaker.net

The chip fan you mention cools the northbridge chip. If you shop carefully
you could replace it with a decent heat-sink to eliminate the need for a fan
at all. When I can remember the link to a supplier of cooling components I
will post it! ;-)

If you mix memory you will probably get the speed of the 2100 sticks. Try
forcing that speed in the BIOS. Press ctrl/f1 to get the advanced chipset
menu and set it there. I don't know why XP hangs booting just the 2700,
though it is always possible that the stick is faulty.
