gigabyte ga a78m hd2

the motherboard linked above, according to its specification, supports only up to 2gb of shared memory. a friend wants to buy another 8gb 2133 ram for it. his apu is a10 7870k.

since newer games is vram hungry, will the additional stick help or useless as far as vram for apu is concerned? or the onboard graphics is different from that of the apu?

Solution
Yes, that would help performance alot! I have an APU as well, and adding more ram is better. To change the amount of vram dedicated to the APU you need to go into the mobo bios and change the UMA framebuffer size, or something along those lines to 2GB.

Also, if the mobo supperts it, the APU can run the ram in dual channel mode, which increases performance ALOT.

I hope i helped!
same brand, speed, cl9. as of now he wants to spend it on memory. maybe in a few months, hell buy a dgpu.

so, is the onboard graphics different from that of the apu? will the apu only get max of 2gb?

edit: btw the 260 is gddr5 right? wouldn't it throttle down to match with the apu?

have you tried dedicating more than 2gb? or is that even possible?
