Which RAM is better for Gigabyte Z270X Gaming 5 :
Patriot Viper 4 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2800 (PC4 22400)
Or
G.SKILL RIPJAWS 4 (F4-3000C15Q-16GRR) (4 x 4GB)

Solution

The G.Skill kit is better. It is both faster (3000 vs 2800 MHz) which your Motherboard can handle and it is a 4x4 Kit instead of 2x8. The only downside would be the upgradability, with a 2x8 kit you obviously have another 2 slots if you decide you want to upgrade later on then you won't need to buy a whole new kit. But if 32GB is off your radar for many years to come, i'd recommend the G.SKill kit. Hope this helps :)

as far as i know, dual channel and quad channel dont have much difference in speed. as for the speed, it depends on your cpu. right now, intel kaby lake processors only support up to 2400, amd ryzen supports 3600, and skylake supports 2133, and for each processor, anything higher needs an overclock.
