Hey guys this is my first time on the forumz here- but I'm a regular on Tom's Hardware. I'm a student and work at Best Buy, so i got the retail edge deal that I'm sure many of you guys have heard about by now. Like many 965 boards, the ram requirement are quite strict, and since theres no overclocking/ voltage tinkering options, I would like to get some Ram that posts @800mhz. The requirements on intel's website for the DG965wh board are as follows:

The board has four DIMM sockets and support the following memory features:
1.8 V (only) DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
Unbuffered, single-sided or double-sided DIMMs with the following restriction:
Double-sided DIMMs with x16 organization are not supported.
8 GB maximum total system memory using DDR2 667 or DDR2 533 DIMMs
4 GB maximum total system memory using DDR2 800 DIMMs;
Minimum total system memory: 512 MB
Non-ECC DIMMs
Serial Presence Detect
DDR2 800, DDR2 667, or DDR2 533 MHz SDRAM DIMMs
DDR2 800 DIMMs with SPD timings of only 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 (tCL-tRCD-tRP)

I found http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146599 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146118that look good. I assumed that the one that is more expensive but doesnt have heat spreaders costs more because it has EPP. Although I won't be overclocking with this board, it might be a possibility in the future with a new mobo. Also I am more familiar with AMD boards, and I was wondering if i buy another kit later and put it in- will my RAM clock down to 2T? If anyone has this board what RAM are you using? Any suggestions/ comments are welcomed.

533mhz? I mean kingston ram is ok... but I run AutoDesk apps and such as well as games i need the best value for performance. Also if you read those specs, I can't have Cas Latency of 4- 5 is the lowest i can have....

How do you expect to get to 800Mhz?
That ram will run perfectly on your system. Look up the Newegg URL I listed and read the review section. You should be able to get it at Best Buy at a good price.

Let me put it this way.
A stock clocked E6xxx cpu system will run memory at 266Mhz.
Because DDR2 means Double Data Rate, this translates to DDR2-533, (2x266).
Unless you overclock your system, this is what you get and is all you need.
If you want to overclock, you need a different motherboard for 2 reasons:
1) G965 chipsets have integrated graphics and do not overclock well. This is true regardless of the brand of motherboard you buy.
2) Intel motherboards (with a very few exceptions) do not have overclocking friendly BIOS options. They are very good boards, but few enthusiasts build systems with them for overclocking.
If you want more speed than the cpu you buy delivers, then:
Buy a P965, P975 or NVidia 650/680i motherboard.
Buy faster ram that can handle the FSB increase.
Make sure your power supply and cooling systems can handle the extra load.

iv got a 650 watt antec truepower trio PSU, and the antec 900 case with 5 120mm fans installed and the top 200mm... cooling is down pat. So you dont think it will run even 667? I thought many people said that it would run 667 and even 800 upon install and just posted that way.

I really think you could benefit from some time spent reading through the overclocking section of this forum...
