RAM help

i have 4gb ram put up in my pc

but windows 7 says Installed Memory(RAM) : 4 GB (2.75 GB usable)

why does it say this?

lot's of new games require 4 GB ram

can i play them?

MY CONFIG:
AMD 2 PHENOM X4 965 BLACK EDITION (3.4 Ghz)
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P
MSI NVIDIA GTX 560
4 GB RAM
1 TB HDD

I'm assuming you're running Windows 7 32bit?
32bit OS's only recognise a maximum of 3GB of RAM. So no matter how much extra you put in, it will only ever register as 3GB (sometimes just over like 3.25GB etc).

I'm not sure why it would register just under 3GB - I've never seen that before..

You need to use 64 bit Windows to use more than 4Gb.

You can check under Control Panel>System.

so if i change to 64-bit and add another 4GB

will it show the exact 8GB or lesser than 8?

It will show 8Gb.
