ok.. I'm barreling down the right path... I know i need 1.9v memory, I know i have a wintec ampx chip right now that works great.

so my question is this...

I have one of these.... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161029
those are out of stock

I was going to buy one of these....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161228
these are in stock

Ok, on wintec's site. it claims that all their ampx is 4-4-4-12 or somthing like that.. which is a lie, cuz this stuff runs slower on my system... i'll try to oc once i get the dual channel... BUT what i'm wondering, is WHY ARE THERE ONLY 2 REVIES ON THE SILVER STUFF?!?!?! (the later of the links)

i mean, it appears to be the same crap, different color, both same voltages, etc. can ANYONE please tell me what timings the silver ones run? and if anyone happens to have an m2npv-vm from asus.. will it run ok on that mobo? I'm prolly going to buy them in 2 days anyway, unless i get a wicked negative response before then...

thank you so much in advance. because it's been a pain trying to find reviews/support for the silver set... the black set i know will work (but they go out of stock 2 days after they get it in 😛)

and ps: sell your old ram locally... i'm selling my old chip to some guy for a little less than what it's gonna cost me to buy the new stuff.... (but it's still half what i paid for it)

So u have the modules that are out of stock and u want to add 2 more modules to make it a total of 2GB of RAM, and u are wondering if this will work because the modules aren't identical and what is the exact difference between them.

Well, of course the 2 new modules are going to work with the 2 old ones because they are not in the channel. But even then it would probably work.

And the difference between them is likely just a very minor feature that doesn't really matter. The difference is usually the type of chips they use, but the price difference is only 2$, so even if the difference is indeed the type of the chips they use, the two types of chips are likely pretty much identical.

If u are looking to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB and already have that exact set, this is a good offer.

that gave me a point of view i hadn't really had before.... i think the ram will work fine.. but the specifics kinda tweak me... I've never had to rma anything... and i'm kinda proud of that... i like to be sure before i jump. hehe. I was also wondering about the timings... the out of stock ones are reviewed as 5's... the in stock ones are not reviewed for timings... and the wintec site says both are 4 timings... so i figure i'll just buy the silver ones... i found out that i'm going to sell my current ram for to a co-worker, and i really only have the 512 chip... so half of what's there... but i'll keep that different channel thing in mind if i have any issues. thanks man...

one more quick question... same channel = same color slot right? I just forget.. but i'm pretty sure that's how it works based on what i have read.
