Hello,

I was planning to buy more RAM in december. I don't know much about RAM and i wanted some advice: If i am planning to buy RAM, do i have to match the current brand of RAM i currently am running? And can my current RAM is 1333Mhz, can i buyRAM that has a higer MHZ? Thanks> edit: i currently have DDR3 Ram

Its best to buy them in matched sets. However yes you can mix and match after the fact but as Blackbird was alluding to doing so introduces the possibility of incompatibility.

So if you are mixing and matching then yes buy RAM that matches the specs (specifically the timings) of your current RAM and is from the same Brand. For best chance that it will work correctly. Chances are it will, it's just super frustrating when it won't and nothing is actually wrong with the RAM.

Yes you can use faster RAM but it will run at the speed of your slowest RAM so it's kind of pointless to buy them in this case.
