Hi,

I am trying to add two more RAM modules (2x2GB DDR2) to my motherboard(Gigabyte EP43-DS3L) but i am getting continuous short beep error code, then auto restart. which corresponds to power supply unit failure. (PSW Termaltake toughpowerXT 675W)
I already had 2x2GB installed at slots 1&2.

Beeps happen when i try to install any RAM in slots 3&4. I tested only one RAM and this happens in Slots 3&4 only.

Is it a short circuit or maybe a bad capacitor? i checked the pins with magnifying glass they seem fine!

any ideas what the problem might be? MB is 10Y out of warranty, im ok desoldering stuff to fix it.

According to the motherboard manual, the memory should be installed in slots 1 & 3 for the first pair of modules then slots 2 & 4 for the second pair of modules for dual-channel mode. If you've got your existing pair of modules in slots 1 & 2 (i.e. single-channel mode) then maybe the board is just getting hopelessly confused when it finds an old module on one channel paired with a new one on the other.

Have you tried putting the existing modules in slots 1 & 3, and the new ones in slots 2 & 4? (In the English version of the manual, version 1006, on Gigabyte's website, it's section 1.4.1 on page 18.)
