RAM Issues & Recognization

Hey guys, I am having issues with my ram that I just can't seem to fix. I have reseated it at least a dozen times and tested the two 4096 MB 1600MHz DDR3 ram sticks individually and I have finally came to a brick wall.

It all started when I installed my new Cooler Master fan (212! The thing is a beast and is super quiet) and my RAM is recognized in BIOS as only 4080 MB. Even Windows sees that there is 8 GB, but only 3.9 are usable. (yes I am sure I am running 64 bit)

The main menu in my BIOS says that I have a total of 4080 MB, but when I go to check the slot configuration, it sees both of them in the correct slots: 1&3 respectively. This is the correct configuration for dual channel on my mother board. I also went to see the timings, which are indeed correct.

When I then load into windows, I go into task manager to see what is up. The memory says I have 8 GB total, 4 GB available, and 4 GB that are "Hardware Reserved".

Next, I went into msconfig to make sure I am not limiting myself. I am not.

Finally, I went into CPU-Z to see what the hell is going on. My RAM timings on the Memory interface are correct, but my memory is running at 533MHz and my Channel # is Single. Like I said, I am correctly configured for Dual Channel and the 533MHz should be at about 800MHz instead.

I'm really stumped here. I have attempted to restore the default settings on the board numerous times and this issue didn't start until I put in my new fan. Any help would be much appreciated and I will post pictures when the internet on my computer comes back up. (What a day it has been for me, amiright?)

Forgive me for my ignorance, but...

EVO?

... It's late. I thought it was something to do with the motherboard. 😛 My bad.

I'll give a go on that. Thank you!

Thanks a ton for your help! I did end up doing what you said to with the fan. It didn't help.

I did find the issue though. It appears that my DIMM slot is busted 🙁. Oh well.
I have to run 8 GB in single channel now instead of dual channel.

Will I see a huge impact on performance?
