I currently have 16 gigs of DDR3 1600 MHz RAM installed in my machine. It's fast. But is it as fast as possible?
Linus Tech Tips did a video on Ram a while ago but i cant seem to find it.

Would installing another 16 gigs give me a noticeable benefit?

Thanks,
Harrison

Not a lot.
For instance, if you currently have 1333, it does no benefit to toss that and buy 1866.

If you're building a new system, then generally you would get the fastest compatible RAM, in the...
No benefit going from 16GB to 32GB.

Very little benefit going up in ram speed.

You'd be hard pressed to notice the difference between .000000004 second and .000000006 second.
Pretty much the same for your computer - its faster but not enough to make any discernible difference in real world performance.

You shouldn't think about that. Here are 2 reasons why:
#1 It's not worth upgrading to 32 Gigs of RAM, because you have more than enough RAM for gaming and other stuff.
#2 RAM doesn't ''slow down''.

Hope i helped :)

Increase the RAM to 32GB only if you are actually running out at 16GB.
Unless you are running multiple VM's, or manipulating LARGE data sets, this is unlikely.

Best thing you can do is go from DDR3 to DDR4, although you'd need a new motherboard for that. 16gb is really all you need, 32 is overkill, even 24 is a bit too much unless you animate disney films or something crazy like that.

Thanks for the reply.
Can I pick your brain about RAM MHz? It's always kind of boggled me. How much difference there is between 1333, 1600 and 1866Mhz RAM not including the "low voltage" ram and performance.

I'm currently using 1600Mhz ram. Isn't it a no-no to install anything other than 1600Mhz memory alongside my current Ram?

I'm not going to lie...This is totally confusing to me. :??:
