Ram mixing doubt

My pc as max capacity of 4gb and it as 2 slots. Initially it as 2 no. Of 512 mb ram now i bought a one 2gb ram and replaced one 512 mb slot but my pc shows only 2gb as total memory not as 2.5gb why

No no iam using pc "dell optiplex 320" which as 2 slots and maximum expandable upto 4gb and i just inserted 1 2gb ram & 1 512 mb ram but it shows my total memory as only 2gb but in my boot menu it shows correctly as 2gb & 512 mb is inserted but in total memory size it shoes only 2gb

the integrated viedo chip will take up to 224MB, the rest should be negligible
