Hello,

I have 3 slots in my laptop which contains 2x2gb + 1x4gb ram. They are all functional (tested 1 by 1).

The 2 slots located behind the laptop work fine but the third one located behind the keyboard isn't recognized by windows and Bios.

However CPU-Z detects all of them : it says 8go while windows/bios says 6 go

Any advice for me ?

Without detailed specifications, it is difficult to determine the best course of action.

However, if you are willing to try some other memory, here are some compatible memory modules/kits (it is suggested that a dual channel kit be tried, as the modules within the kit are guaranteed to be compatible) -

Did this issue occur after changing/installing memory, or changing any other hardware or software? Or did this issue seem to occur for no apparent reason (no changes)?

What is the make and model of the laptop?

What are the model/part numbers of the memory (part numbers usually start with a capital letter)?

Actually I have never used my 3rd slot before, I was only using 2 slots. So I realized it doesn't work after my first trial :/

I have :
2x2gb : M471B577CHS - CH9
1x4gb : AD73I1C1674EV

My laptop is Medion Erazer x6811 (MD97651)

Thanks for the details!

Difficult to find clear and detailed specifications for this laptop, so there is some degree of guesswork required.

It is noted that different memory modules are being used. This might cause some compatibility issues between the modules due to module characteristics variations. Every module has its' own unique characteristics, and for two or more modules to work together properly requires that the modules characteristics all be similar.

First, if possible try resetting the laptop BIOS by clearing the CMOS.

Next, check the total system memory is NOT limited (Start > type in msconfig and press enter key > Boot tab > Advanced options > Maximum memory box should be Unchecked).

If still having issues, try the modules in different slots.

If still having issues, try updating the BIOS (if possible). The present BIOS installed might be limiting the amount of memory that is available to the system.

If still having issues, try different modules with the same part number. This procedure may take awhile and might also be expensive (buying and returning modules). It will probably require quite a few attempts using different combinations of modules until a combination is found that works with the laptop (all memory available).

thanks for helping me.

I've tried to clear CMOS, the maximum memory box was unchecked. I have also tried to change the ram position, if I put only 1 ram no (matter which one) in the 3rd slot, the computer doesn't boot.

I have also noticed that when I put 2 ram in the computer (slot 1&2 with 2 + 4 go ) by tapping Windows + E, I can see 5,98 go and when I put the 3 ram it is 6,00 go.

As for the Bios, I think it's with the latest update.

Still having difficulty finding detailed specifications for this laptop.

The reason the laptop does not boot with memory in the 3rd memory slot is possibly because that some systems will only boot with memory in certain memory slots. It seems for booting this laptop, only the first or maybe the 2nd memory slot should be used.

It is suspected that the BIOS may be limiting the total memory that is available to the system. If there is no BIOS update available, then it seems that the total laptop memory is limited by BIOS to 6 GB.

You could try several memory module combinations using modules with the same part number (preferably), and see if by chance you can get 8 GB (or more) memory running on this laptop anyway. But there is no guarantee of success.
