RAM not detected by bios

(I have little knowledge about RAM)

Hello, today I have bought some ram thinking it will work on my mobo but it does not, currently what I have is:

Mobo: Foxconn 2ada
Ram: 6GB (2gb and 4gb, only 2 slots for ram)

So today I've purchased a 2nd hand Corsair VengeanceLP 8GB DDR3 1600mhz, thinking I could swap it out for the 2GB and have 12GB ram in total, however when I combine the 4GB ram with the 8GB the bios does not recognise the 8GB leaving me at only 4GB.

However software such as Speccy reads that the 8gb of ram is installed but the bios does not.

I've tried placing the 8gb of ram by itself but the pc does not recognise it and makes a beeping sound.

What can I do in this case?

Solution
this might effect it as well, if the ram is sold in sets - but it shouldn't stop it from working.

The only way you can correct the speed is by using ur default ram and plugging new one in + using bios to correct the speeds.

When it comes to mixing ram kits they should have the same timings, CAS latency, frequency, voltage required and quantity of ram.
Even so, it may not work at all.
8GBs is quite enough for most user's needs, going above that aount of ram is required only when multitasking or heavy softwares.

and the Mobo you have supports
DDR3 DIMM slots – Dual Channel DDR3 1600/1333 MHz so make sure the two different ram blocks are running the same speeds at least - or take out the 4gb and just use the 8, its enough.

Make sure it's plugged into the correct "socket" sometime one can be wrong even if there are two...

Ensure that ram added to your computer, is installed correctly. Turn off the computer, then remove and re-insert the ramstick ensuring that each component is firmly seated in its slot.

also the previous owner could have changed the rams speeds to something higher then the default, which has to be changed back, which can be done in a machine that actually supports the speeds

Does the bios or anything come up?

When I try turning on the computer with just the single stick of the 8gb of ram the computer starts beeping after ~3 seconds and I get nothing but a black screen and the bios is not accessible as nothing shows up on the screen.

I have tried both slots and it has the same outcome, and I made sure the ram was installed into the mobo correctly.

Is there any way possible that I can lower the speeds on my machine?

Also on the back of the 8gb ram it says 16gb(2x8gb), does that have to do anything with it? (Stupid question, i dont have much experience with ram :p)
