Hi there, I have a brand new ASUS K401UB-Fr038T laptop. It has 4GB of inbuilt RAM and one slot upgradeable to max of 12GB total RAM.

I have tried both of the 4GB cards from my old laptop that died (another ASUS) but can't get it to show up in either the BIOS or Windows. Everything just says 4096MB memory installed.

I've googled a lot and seen many posts here with similar issues but am at a complete loss as to why it isn't working.

I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff. Can't find the CMOS jumper (or battery even). The laptop itself doesn't seem to have a removable battery.

Have tried several times to check the card is seated correctly. Not sure if I need to alter the BIOS or Windows settings.

Was a bit disappointed it only came with 4GB so woud love to get it to 8GB.

Running Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
RAM card is Kingston 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-12800S-11-11-F3.
Given there is only one slot for expansion I can't see how I could have anything wrong in terms of installation.
I just need the laptop to detect the added RAM and start using it.

Any advice would be much appreciated!
