Here's the computer:
- Celeron 320 D 2.4GHZ 533MHZ FSB 256KB L2 cache
- GigaByte P4 GA-8S661FXM PGA478 Motherboard
- 256MB PC3200 400 MHZ DDR

I added another piece of 256MB PC3200, but the computer doesn't say it has 512MB. Even the BIOS doesn't say it. But when I use a program like Everest (<A HREF="http://www.lavalys.com" target="_new">http://www.lavalys.com</A>) it says that the stick is there.

I tried each stich on it's own, and they both register as 256MB.

Any ideas?

Since you can boot individually, and not as a pair, would lead me to believe you have a compatibility issue with the two modules working in tandem. (obvious answer)

The first things I would check are:
1. The brand of the module (is there a part number)
2. Chip configuration (can you read the part number of the chip?)
3. What latency is the system running each individual module? I know CPU-Z can be used to read the latency of each module.

Hard to say what is causing the issue. It could be caused by the chips on the modules being different configurations.

edit: Also, you can check to see if there are any BIOS updates for this board.
