Ram not snapping in? Wondering what is wrong.

I just got this ram and it's not fitting in my motherboard properly (as far as I can tell).

RAM- G.SKILL Value 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C11D-8GNT

Motherboard- ASRock Z77 Extreme4

What do you mean by "snapping" in? Some times it is necessary to help it by levering the locking lever inward as you press down on the stick one end at a time.

Like I can literally not get the ram further in than the 2nd picture. It won't budge.

The ram is correct for that board. I've never seen correct ram that wouldn't go in the correct slots. Is this problem will all sticks in all slots? Examine the slots to be sure none of the contacts are bent out of position. Also check to be sure your notch is perfectly centered over the guide post in the slot. Then 'rock' the stick into position.

New boards(and some boards in general) sometimes have VERY stiff contacts in the memory slots. Make sure the 2 arms are out all the way then gently push both sides, sometimes as said above you may want to push one side harder then the other(apply the pressure from side to side).

It can be scary to see a board flex, but the ram will get into the slot for sure.

So I tried the 2nd stick of ram, and that one went in with no problem at all. The first stick of ram however will still not go in at all. It's straight, no pins are bent.

Any ideas?

defect? maybe the stick is just a bit wider then it should be(rubbing/jamming on the sides of the slot)?

No other slots will take that stick?

None of the slots will.

But when I compare the sticks they are identical (as far as I can tell).

No new ideas, just keep at it as nukemaster says. Btw, on boards like yours with little support out past the memory sticks, I like to add some plastic standoffs to help support the downward pressure so you don't break a solder trace.

Got it to work.

So it seem after getting one stick in I could swap the easy in stick for the annoying resistant one. Then I just put the other stick in a different slot.

I've never had so much stress with ram. Thank you everyone for your help.





Also, thanks for the plastic standoff link. I've been supporting the bottom of the board with my finger out of fear for the board.

I did not know you could still buy those

I use gently cut white eraser under the PCI-e slot on my ITX board.

Nice looking job in that tiny case. Staying cool? My venture into a mini ITX rig wouldn't keep cool gaming with an HD 7850 squeezed in.

Yeah, I keep a box of those plastic standoffs for just the above mentioned reason.

The card can get into the 60s under(that is still hotter then most reviews) a good load, but the side is well ventilated.

Honestly, I have some room for improvement. If I place a 120mm fan sitting on the top vent, the PSU fan drops by about 200 rpm and the system does run a bit cooler, but all in all, this system has my COOLEST running cpu ever.

The video card is acceptable, but still has limits from the small case. My 5770 ran much hotter and louder, but that is just how that card was.

All in all a card that spits heat out the back is still most then likely a better idea. I tried to clean the case out to make as much air flow room as I could(2.5 inch HDD and SSD off to the side).
