I had Corsair CMK8GX4M2B3000C15R Vengeance LPX 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4 3000 MHz RAM in my PC and recently ordered another of the exact same set so I could have 16gb RAM.

My original 8gb of RAM ran fine at the advertised oc speed of 3000mhz at standard voltage (1.2v). Upon installing the new RAM, the speed reset to 2133mhz, so I went to bios, turned on xmp and set the multiplier to 30 to achieve 3000mhz again.

However, my pc tried to boot 3 times and failed, so the speed got reset to 2133mhz again.

I read somewhere that I might need to increase voltage, so I set it to 1.25v and 3000mhz.

However, this brought on a multitude of different bsods, commonly 0xc0000428, 0xc0000098,0xc0000221, and non bsod error 0xc00000bb (only once).

I managed to fix this by finally getting into recovery mode and using a system restore point, which although it didn't work (error 0x80070003), rebooted my pc and it booted up normally.

I then ran sfc /scannow and it fixed some corrupted files, so I tried to get my ram to 3000mhz again but this time with xmp disabled, also set all bios to default to remove my small cpu oc, and I went through the exact same cycle again.

For now my pc seems stable with the ram at 2133mhz, however I paid extra for RAM at 3000mhz so if I can't find a fix I will have to return the new set.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Edit: One thing I can't get my head around, which I tried again today, is that setting the speed to 3000mhz comes up with bsods as if windows 10 is corrupted, yet by setting the ram speed down it allows me to access it fine. It's not as if lowering the ram speed magically fixed these files, and I did nothing in between, so I don't really get why it works again?

I can't because I've had the first set for over a year, otherwise I'd probably return them both and just buy 2x8gb sticks so I could have space to get more ram in the future. I am going to try to repair my windows 10 installation later today so I will come back with how that goes
