Ram on MSI Mortar Motherboard

Hello, and thank you in advance.

I have recently built my own gaming computer, and it started with 8 Gb of RAM (EVO POTENZA DDR4). The computer operated fine. However, when I added two more RAM cards of the same model, the computer would not turn on, and I don't know what I did wrong.

Anyway, even adding RAM of same model will sometimes not work. That's the reason to always buy RAM in matched kits.

Any time you add more memory even the same kind their no guarantee it will work. Memory is sold in a matched tested set for a reason.
Increase the memory voltage in BIOS by 0.05 volts and try again.

They make a lot of different 2X4GB sets of memory but still raise the voltage by 0.05 volts.

Yes just the memory voltage it should say 1.20 volts change it to 1.25

How would I go about doing that on an MSI Z170M Mortar Intel Motherboard?

It should be in the motherboard manual.

In BIOS it should be in the memory settings. Could be advanced settings I don't use MSI boards.

make sure your mb has the newest bios so it has the newest ram and cpu code. intel and mb vendors will tell you to do this to check your ram and slots. take one known good ram stick and put it in each of your ram slots make sure all the slots work. start from the outside and put the first known good stick in the top slot. then the next known good ram stick. then the 3rd stick. if the system post you should have 12g of memory. then the last stick. if the last stick causes no post or one before it make sure the ram is the same..ie single sided and the same number of chips. also check that the new ram not low power ram or ddr3 ram. make sure the nmew ram ther no damage from shipping and no bent pins on the mb ram slots.

The BIOS version has nothing to do with adding more memory that already works on the board.
I would never tell somebody that can't even increase the memory voltage to update their BIOS that is the only way to Brick the board.
