ram placement?

how should i put the ram? i have 2 one gig sticks.
i have 4 slots
i heard putting them in the 1st and 3rd slot...the same color...is better then putting them closer together

If you don't want to read the manual your motherboard came with, at least keep them in like-colored slots. Please.

Duh, you think that maybe the slots are color coded for a reason? I'll let you in on the little secret.....if you put the RAM in the same color slots, you will be running your memory in dual channel mode. That's a good thing. If you put them in different color slots, you will be running in single channel mode. Not so much a good thing.
This is in your motherboard book, and if you can't find it or don't have one, a quick google search would have turned up about 1000 hits that will tell you exactly the same thing.
