Ram prices in 2016

What do the wise minds of Tom's Hardware predict? What will DDR3 prices look like a year from now? Money is tight, but I would benefit from 16gb of ram. Are prices going to start going up as DDR4 goes mainstream? Is the move to DDR4 happening slow enough that DDR3 prices will drop?

Can't decide if I should dig the pennies out of the couch to get the 2x8gb kit now, or settle for a mediocre pair of 4gb sticks today, and pick up a hott 16 or 32GB kit 12-18 months from now.

What do you do to need more than 16GB of RAM? It really is going to depend on what you do.

I dabble in some image/video editing as a hobby, and sometimes take 3d design work home. But thats not the point - I am curious about the market trend in prices. It appears to be heading down, but has it hit bottom, or is it still going?

Supply and Demand, Supply will rise for DDR3 and Demand will rise for DDR4. DDR3 will be cheaper as its not the newest. I don't know how much it will change, DDR3 is alot cheaper that it was a year or two ago
