I have an Asus Prime X570-P motherboard with a Ryzen 7 3700x 8-core CPU. It has 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 RAM (2 x 8GB) installed in slots A2 & B2 as per the installation guide. The GPU is an NVIDIA Quadro k2200 but that should not make any difference to the problem I have.

The current installed BIOS is 0604 (as delivered) but there are later ones. I do not "over clock" or any other tweaks for game playing as the PC is used mainly for Photo & Video editing. Before I do something I will regret (I am not a techie expert and most sites say upgrading BIOS is risky and not generally needed), I would like some advice why the available RAM is only showing ~8GB.

The BIOS is detecting both RAM modules at the correct size and position. I have done as much "research" on this issue as I can and have checked that there is no set RAM limit. The OS system is Win 10 Pro.

I have considered buying another 2 RAM modules (the exact spec is still available) and putting it into the other two slots but I am not sure if that is throwing money away.

I built the PC in January this year but various issues (not least CV19) have really prevented me investigating this problem.

All help will be appreciated.

Updating BIOS with newer Asus boards is easy, just follow directions in manual. (I recommend the USB flash method - remember to rename the file)

Thanks for these comments. I had wondered about updating the BIOS as the one I have is several updates behind and I notice that one update does mention improved DIMM handling. I will give that a try.
