Novice here! I have an 8 slot trx40 mobo, 3960 ripper cpu. I want new rams, can i fit two lots of four ram kits or do i have to fit a one set of eight kit?

You can try 2 kits of 4 sticks.
See what the results are.

If you have the option of a 8 stick kit that would be best.

You are probably thinking that 2 kits will be cheaper than one for the same capacity.
Ram must be matched for proper operation.
This becomes even more important with 8 slots to fill.
Two kits of even the same part number will not be matched.
