Always a safe bet: https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/dell/dell-g16-gaming-(7620)

Download CPU-Z to get more information about the sticks that are in there now.

They claim DDR5 4800 2x8GB, but don't list the other specs, and Dell is pretty notorious for doing things like shipping single channel memory if it is cheaper for them to get. Though single 16GB stick probably would have been decently expensive at the time it was built.

So I put some RAM in and powered it up... The keys light up for about a minute then it shuts off. I disconnected and re-connected the battery, same result. I ensured the RAM is compatible so I am at a loss for what is happening. Anyone seen this before?

I put the old RAM back in and it seems to be ok.

UPDATE: I spoke too soon.. it was on with the old RAM, then I relocated to the house and now it won't power up again.

Thank you. Yeah the first attempt was a no-go. I will get my specs and post. I also downloaded CPU-Z and will run it

Hi all. I am trying to upgrade my RAM and have hit a few snags. My specs are below as well as what is recommended and what I have tried so far.

System Specs:

Dell G16 7620
Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H (20 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
Display Memory: 14043 MB

Then, according to CPU-Z:
Type: DDR5 / Size: 16GB

Slot 1 and 2 both say:
DDR 5 / Module Size: 8GB
Max Bandwidth: DDR5-4800 (2400MHz)

When I go to the Crucial website, it recommends this RAM:
Crucial 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR5-5600 SODIMM
https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr5/CT2K16G48C40S5

Can anyone tell me if this is compatible? I see DDR5-4800 listed above, does 5600 not work because there is also an option for 4800? I am just trying to get to 32GB. I already tried Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 SODIMM 16GB (2x16GB) DDR5 4800MHz, and it wouldn’t boot afterwards so I put the original RAM back in. Any tips are greatly appreciated before I attempt this again. Thank you.

Crucial shows 4800/5200/5600 ram for your pc.
All of them should work.
Do you have the proper bios?
