Just finished putting new system together. Ram is showing up as 1333Mhz in bios. I have corsair vengeance pro 1600Mhz, any ideas as to why?

Asus h97m-e
2x4g Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 CL9 1.5v

I have installed the very latest bios.

Enabled XMP profile already. Still running at

Memory 8,192 MB
Module 14,096 MB Corsair DDR3 @ 667 MHz
Module 24,096 MB Corsair DDR3 @ 667 MHz

My bios is showing me that i have Corsair DDR3 1333mhz plugged in. Im quite confused.

Solution
I'm not calling your system slow, I'm stating RAM makers sometimes do that with the goal of increasing compatibility with older systems and hardware. It is a common practice and might explain why when XMP was enabled it didn't load the correct settings. If you aren't seeing a second one, then it could just be how your motherboard is reading it. It is a bit odd, but I wouldn't think there is anything wrong with the system really, just a quirk in the RAM settings. Change them manually and you should be fine.
Some times there are more than one XMP profiles. One might be a 1333 MHz profile to work with slower systems that have difficulties running at 1600 MHz, and then another will be at the full regular speed.

So see if that is the issue. If not, then just try to manually set it. That should work fine too.

I see only 1 profile though.

My system is:

i5-4460
gtx 970
2x4 gb ram
asus h97
seasonic 620w psu

i doubt it should be regarded as a slow system? Im wondering why other systems get fixed when changed XMP profile. Mine just gets 1333mhz. Is there anything wrong with my hardware?

XMP profiles are for 1600 and up, the DRAM will have defaults for 1333 and sometimes 1066 programmed into the SPD. What CPU do you have, not all can even run 1600 sticks and it's the CPU (specifically the MC (memory controller in the CPU) that ultimately what data rate you can run

Where are you seeing this ? Is this your RAM ?

RAM's advertised speed, in this case 1600, is always the XMP overclocked speed. Unless you set BIOS to XMP, it will not run at 1600.

In the BIOS look for the AI Overclock Tuner = Auto setting and change it to AI Overclock Tuner = XMP. Hit F10 after doing so, save and exit. If this doesn't work, you will have to go into the DRAM settings and input the settings manually.

Also Open up CPU-Z go to the SPD tab and see what the profile is on the far right. Those should be the XMP settings and if you have to enter them manually, that's what you should enter.

There may only be 1 profile for XMP, it's not uncommon on 1600 sticks, especially CL9 and higher (CL10-CL11) sets. Normally sticks will have 2 profiles, the primary being the advertised 'rated' which is profile 2 and a second which in lower XMP datarates will be an 'enthusiast' profile which is normally simply a change in the CR from 2T to 1T, in higher data rate DRAM the second profile is often to one data rate lower, i.e. a 2800 set may have a second profile for 2666

This is my ram:

Will try that thanks. I've already set XMP profile 1. Initially it was running on 1066 after XMP went to 1333 (this is based on firestrike). But originally it shows in BIOS im using Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1333mhz

OK in 1st post you said Vengeance Pro. Did you open CPU-z and read your SPD Info ?

You wanna look at the next tab to the right - "SPD"

Alright so i did the above steps. XMP and manual both and quite confused. Did i do it right?

UEFI Bios utility

Information
Bios Ver. 2404 (updated already latest)
Memory: 8192MB (DDR3 1600 MHz)

DRAM status:
DIMM_A1: Corsair 4096MB 1333 MHz
DIMM_A2: N/A
DIMM_B1: Corsair 4096MB 1333 MHz
DIMM_B2: N/A

X.M.P: XMP DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24-2N-1.50V

Im confused which is telling the truth? Sorry i dont know how to post photo so i just copied as text

You want the last one #4

As for the previous post it's a one or the other thing.

Option 1 -

a) Set Ai overclock Tuner to XMP .... that will make all the adjustments automatically
b) Hit F10, save and exit
c) Go back in BIOS and make sure it still reads XMP
d) Look at DRAM< speed and timings and make sure they match what is listed in CPU_z under #4

Option 2 - If that doesn't work, as has happened to me more times than I'd like on Asus boards, after copying down or taking screen shot of #4

a) Set Ai overclock Tuner to Manual
b) Enter the speed, timings and voltage manually for BOTH slots
c) Hit F10 save and exit
d) Go back in BIOS Look at DRAM< speed and timings and make sure they match what is listed in CPU_z under #4
