Hi i been having problem with ram. i bought 2 new sticks and the problem went away for about a month. now the comp wouldnt boot till i pulled 1 of my 2 ram sticks out i tried both ram stick in the slot that seems to be working and no problems. i put the ram sticks in the 2nd slot and no problems but if i put them both in at the same time i get a problem. they are matching sticks. i was wondering if there is a test i could do to see if the ram slot is dead since it dosnt seem to be the sticks. if the process i tried is the only way to find out then i guess i have the answer and the ram slot is dead. but its strange that both slots work when only one is in use but gives me a problem when i have it in both. i have windows xp 32x and i have 2x 2gig ram stick. is it possible also that having 4 gigs ram when windows xp 32bit only detects 3.5gig could cause a problem? is there a such thing as too much ram for your os? my motherboard is an Asus P5KPL-CM. and can handle 4gigs max.
