ram slot efficientcy

in the new pc i'm building i was wondering if it is better to use 4 sticks of 4gb ram or to go with 2 sticks of 8 gb ram? also is there a reason why?

2 sticks of 8 it puts less stress on the controller for a duel channel motherboard if your were building a X99 system with a quad channel board then you would use 4 sticks.
For most people 2 X4 for a total of 8GB is all that's needed unless your doing video editing or work related programs.
For gaming their really no reason to get over 8gb
