RAM slot empty

I recently bought Lenovo Z500 core i3 . It came up with 4gb ddr3 1600mhz of ram. I installed 8 gb ddr3 1330mhz ram . But now it only showing 8 gb and one slot empty . when 8gb ram is installed in the lower slot it shows only 8gb (1330mhz)ram and one slot empty. If I install 4gb ram in bottom slot it shows 4gb(1600mhz) of ram and one slot empty. I check it through bios and Performance monitor. Somebody help me please is it ram speed problem or slot.
Well generally I can put ram in any slot right ??? or is it that if we want to use 1 slot then it has to be the bottom one ?

one more thing when I install the ram in upper slot it does not give click sound . I just insert it .. I tried to insert it at 45 degree and pushed but it rather goes inside as it is. The lower slot gave me click sound when I inserted ram.

Also one ram has cl 9 and other cl 11

Looks like the slot since it is only reporting what is in the lower slot.

I think might be the speed of ram ...

If it was ram speed incompatibility it would not start, to me looks like it is only recognizing 1 module at a time in the lower slot.

Still sounds like a broken slot, they should insert the same way!

Have you tried putting only one ram module in the slot that not picking up and leave the lower slot empty and see what it does.

ya but I suppose when we single ram it has to be the lower slot . I did put one ram on upper slot but my system didn't start

That could only mean that your upper slot is faulty bud. Do you still have warranty on that laptop?
If you do I recommend take it in then.

Ya I do have base warrnty and Accidental warranty too but I am in Australia and my lap does not cover international warranty.

That could only mean that your upper slot is faulty bud. Do you still have warranty on that laptop?
If you do I recommend take it in then.

Guys thanks a lot for your support but still confused whether should buy 8 gb 1333mhz ram and then try .

Conclusion is that the slot is faulty, to get that fixed it has to be RMA'd even if you have to send it to country of origin!

lol then I would buy one year extra warranty rather then spending money on shipping to India..Will go back sometime in future and get it fixed.

Just leave the current 8GB module in and call it good until fixed.
