Question RAM speed

looking at the RAM listings and I can see that the top performing DDr5 RAM for AMD has higher CL numbers and other latencies then other RAM, I was under the impression that lower CL was better , So how come?

e.g. the TeamGroup T-Force Vulcanα DDR5 Ram tops the 6000 MT/s memory hierachy but it has latencies 38-38-38-78

the Corsair Vengeance RGB has 30-36-36-76 but is further down the list

simply put amds chips when it comes to latency have a sweet spot when it comes to am5 its more speed then latency.

also latency can matter depending on the use case. if its gaming it will matter but it wont necessary show up on the tests.

example cl 30 may net you better framerate and better 1 percent lows at 6000. as speed increase keeping latency down is still good. but the overall speed will usually win out.

then its more wallet vs ram lol.

ok thanks, So perhaps the issue is that the tests used to create the RAM scores are not gaming specific
yep these arent gaming benchmarks there more from what i can tell just to give a rough scope of how each ram kit performs

quote from the link you sent

However, the geometric means don't always tell the whole story: If you're looking for performance in a specific workload or gaming, we recommend looking at the full review of the memory kit you have in mind.

The score results originate from the geometric mean from our RAM benchmark suite, which consists of scripted and real-world tests. They include Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Lightroom, Cinebench 2024, Corona 12 benchmark, Blender 4.0 benchmark, V-Ray 6 benchmark, 7-Zip compression and decompression, HandBrake x264 and x265 conversion, LuxMark v4, Windows AI inference, and Y-Cruncher.
