I currently have a GIGABYTE Z390 Aorus Pro motherboard with a non-K i7-8700 @ 4.3.

My previous prebuilt's motherboard did not allow me to go past 2400 MHz in memory speed and so I went for two Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB sticks, CL16 at 2400 MHz DDR4 at the time. I decided to re-use these sticks on the new motherboard, which is on my new build.

Is it even worth it at all to get 2 x 16 GB 3200 MHz CL16 DDR4 for this processor? It's not a Ryzen so I don't think memory speed is all that important for it.

However, I'm seeing conflicting opinions everywhere online. Some people got a 30 FPS boost in games after the fact, some people didn't see any difference.

Maybe you guys can clear this up for me. I will definitely get 3200 MHz, preferrably 3600 MHz memory when I finally end up getting a Ryzen build, but for now, seeing as I'm on Intel CPU, would this upgrade be worth it at all?

Thanks. Probably a dumb question. But that's all I pump out on these forums, lol.

Thing is, I'm changing to a Ryzen build with another motherboard in the future (about a year or more, definitely not anytime soon). If I do end up getting 3600 MHz memory now, I wouldn't know if it's in the QVL list for the new motherboard. I don't even know what motherboard I'll be getting, I'm gonna be coming back here to ask for build & parts advice when the time comes anyway.

I'm more curious if I'm gonna get any worth it increase in performance if I upgrade this RAM now, for this Intel build until I get a completely new Ryzen build, or if I should just use the 2400 MHz RAM until I upgrade, and get the 3600 MHz memory then. Everything runs great as it is.

Well you have a z390 so you can utilize the faster memory. I wouldn’t expect a huge jump in games but if you are already planning to change CPUs to one that can utilize the increased memory speed then I’d get some DDR 3600 whenever it’s in your budget and use it till you get your new CPU. If you’re gonna buy it anyway then even no increase wouldn’t matter. You will get some increase though.

Considering I have two 16 GB sticks totaling 32 GB, at 3600 MHz, it costs quite a lot.

If you buy decent RAM, QVL doesn’t matter much. Ryzen 1st gen was the first CPUs in a while that QVL mattered much. The latest firmware updates have pretty much nullified that issue anyway. I prefer and recommend Gskill RAM but there are other good brands as well. If you’re looking for RGB you can’t go wrong with Gskill NEO, if not Ripjaws will work just fine with Ryzen as well when you upgrade.

Will you notice the difference, probably not as you already have a 6 core CPU. It will be pretty small on an Intel. I don’t see any issue buying some now for the small performance upgrade as they will work with your new CPU

Alright, got it. Seeing as I already have insane framerates I'll stick to buying the RAM when I'll be getting a Ryzen build, and getting recommendations for RAM and other parts from you guys.

G.Skill was the manufacturer in mind for me as well, I don't quite care about RGB at all so I'll see what they have.
