ram suddenly went from 2400mhz to 2933mhz

hi guys i had a i5 6500 and h170 motherboard with crucial ballistix 2400mhz ram, I decided to upgrade to ryzen 7 and when I go to task manager and bios the ram now shows 2933mhz is this suppose to happen cause if what is showing is true that's a good boost meaning I don't need to buy new ram, since I hear that higher the ram speed is best for ryzen cpus. The motherboard BIOS sets the RAM speed and may have tweaks available depending on which mobo you got.

You should check the temperatures on the RAM if possible. It may not last long if it is running outside its thermal envelope. You would have to do that with a thermometer of some kind.

And what temperature is "good" and what temperature is "bad"?

A lot of system memory is the same as the faster kits and capable of overclocking just fine.

I recommend the OP look up more information on overclocking RYZEN, but if the memory is 2933MHz I'd just frankly run MEMTEST86 for a full pass to see if it's stable.

Sounds like the CPU was also overclocked. If not, it should be though you need a half decent CPU COOLER to get a stable 4GHz (or so).

I ran the memtest and it shows that it passed nothing was wrong.

Yep, that's how it works. The clock frequency is half the speed. That's the DDR (Double Data Rate) part. Since the clock signal has a rising and falling edge and this technology reads/writes on both edges the read/write speed it twice the frequency.
